frequently asked questions

Why do you require a non-refundable retainer to book a session?

The non-refundable retainer secures the chosen date and time in my schedule. This means that I can’t schedule any other sessions at that time and am foregoing all other jobs for that specific booking. Please note that, in the case of illness or emergency, a session can be rescheduled once at no additional cost and the non-refundable retainer will be transferred (further details are outlined in the Photography Agreement, which must be read and signed prior to booking).

What should we wear? (applicable to all sessions)

Dress comfortably. In terms of style, choose clothes that are neutral: whites, off-whites, grays, beige, and muted/pastel tones. Neutral or navy/denim pants are great options. It’s preferable to avoid bold colors and graphics or logos on clothing. Different textures can also add a nice visual contrast to your photos. However, this is completely based on your personal preference. Some examples could include: sweaters – especially layered with a button down shirt, dresses, flowy top layers – a sheer/lace/knit cardigan or shawl, etc. Another recommendation is to ensure that your clothing choices don’t clash with your home décor. This is important to keep in mind particularly if our session will be taking place in your home, but is also worth considering regarding displaying your printed photos in your home. Ultimately, the most important thing is to wear clothing that makes you feel good. For further details, I provide a digital reference guide for all of my clients once your session is confirmed!

How & when will we receive our photos?

Your photos will be delivered as digital images through an online, web-based gallery. You’ll be able to view and download all of the images in both high-resolution (ideal for printing) and web-resolution (ideal for sharing on social media). Personal use and printing rights are included with all of my sessions. Galleries are delivered within 4 weeks of receiving your final payment or session date, whichever is later. If you would like to have the images printed through my professional lab to ensure color and quality, this can be done directly through your online gallery! If there are any specific sizes or products not listed on the order sheet, please let me know. The most common products are listed, but I have plenty of other printing options available.

When should we book our family session?

I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your spot and price is secured. That being said, your family session should be booked a minimum of one month in advance. My outdoor summer and fall schedule fills pretty quickly, so the earlier you’re able to book, the better off we’ll be at securing your preferred dates.

When should I book my maternity session?

I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your spot and price is secured. Maternity sessions are typically done when you’re between 28 and 32 weeks pregnant. Of course, there is some flexibility with these recommendations. However, I try not to book Maternity Sessions too far beyond 32 weeks as baby starts to become much heavier towards the end of a pregnancy, which can make simple poses more difficult and uncomfortable. I also want to be cognizant of baby’s due date and the fact that baby could arrive early and to make sure that we have every opportunity to capture those glowing maternity moments so that you have the memories to look back on and marvel at the miracle your body was able to do.

When should we book our newborn session?

I recommend booking as soon as possible to ensure your spot and price is secured. Newborn sessions are always booked initially according to the baby’s approximate due date. Since baby’s actual birth date may vary from the due date, I always leave enough room in my schedule for flexibility. Due to the added flexibility surrounding each booking, I offer a limited number of newborn sessions each month. So book early in order to guarantee your spot! All of my lifestyle sessions are baby-led, so there’s no need for any specific preparation in advance or to try to get baby to be extra sleepy. If baby’s a little bit older or more alert, that’s perfectly fine! I still recommend booking as early as possible in order to guarantee your spot.

How old should my baby be for a posed newborn session?

I typically try to schedule newborn sessions when baby is around two weeks old. This provides time for your family to adapt to your newest addition and the schedule changes that tend to follow, while still ensuring we can capture baby’s tiny little details before they change too much.

Why are newborn sessions scheduled for longer periods of time?

Newborn sessions are scheduled with a 2 hour allowance. This provides extra time for feeding, soothing, and changing breaks as needed.
