1. Who We Are

Karissa Johnson Photography is a photography business based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, Canada, operating karissajohnsonphotography.com.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have. It is written to meet our obligations under Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Your information is never sold, and it is never shared outside Karissa Johnson Photography except with the service providers listed in this policy who help us operate the business.

2. Information You Give Us

We collect, use and disclose your personal information with your consent, which you give when you submit a form, sign a Photography Agreement, or otherwise provide information to us. You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide some or all of our services.

6. Cookies & Analytics

This website runs on WordPress and uses cookies for essential functionality, such as remembering form input and keeping the site secure. We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to understand traffic and search performance. These may set cookies and collect usage data under Google’s own privacy policy.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Some parts of this site may not function as intended if you do.

7. Service Providers We Use

We use the following third parties to run this business. Each handles information under its own privacy policy, and we share only what is necessary for them to provide their service:

  • SiteGround — website hosting.
  • WordPress — the software this website runs on. Contact form and questionnaire submissions are stored in this website’s database.
  • Google (Analytics, Search Console, Fonts) — website measurement and typography.
  • Adobe Fonts — typography. To display this site correctly, font servers may receive your IP address and information about your browser or device.

8. Information stored outside Canada

Several of the providers above store and process information on servers located outside Canada, primarily in the United States. This means your personal information may be accessible to foreign courts, law enforcement and government authorities under the laws of those countries.

By providing your information to us, you consent to it being stored and processed outside Canada as described. If you have questions about this, please contact us.

9. Photographs From Your Session

Photographs taken during your session are personal information and are treated as such. Session images are stored securely and are delivered to you through a private, password-protected online gallery.

How your images may be used, including any use in our portfolio or marketing, is set out in the Photography Agreement you sign before your session. If you would prefer your images not be used publicly, you can tell us at any time and we will honour that going forward.

10. Marketing Emails

We only send marketing emails to people who have given consent, in line with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time. Unsubscribing does not affect emails we need to send about a booking you have already made.

11. Security

This website is served over an encrypted HTTPS connection, and we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach occurs that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected individuals and the appropriate authorities as required by law.

12. How Long We Keep Your Information

  • Enquiries that do not become bookings are kept only as long as needed to respond, and are then deleted.
  • Client records, agreements and questionnaires are kept for as long as needed to provide the service and to meet legal, accounting and tax obligations.
  • Session images are retained at our discretion and are not guaranteed to be archived indefinitely. Please download and back up your gallery promptly.

13. Your Rights

Under PIPA and PIPEDA you have the right to:

  • Ask what personal information we hold about you and request a copy
  • Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Withdraw your consent to our use of your information
  • Ask us to delete information we no longer need to retain

To make a request, please get in touch through our contact page. We will respond within 45 days as required under Alberta’s PIPA. There is no charge for a reasonable request.
